Jazz is a musical art form of more than 100 years encompassing many diverse sub-genres.  The talented musicians of the Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra perform an extensive repertoire of big band literature.  Styles range from Dixieland, Blues and Swing to Latin, Rock and Funk.  The band performs jazz standards by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Thad Jones as well as more recent works by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sammy Nestico, Gordon Goodwin and others.  RMJO also features works by composers with local ties including Chuck Mangione, John LaBarbera and Harold Arlen.  Arrangements played from the Great American Songbook include tunes by George Gershwin, Frank Loesser, Frederick Loewe, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers and Jimmy Van Heusen.   RMJO is continually refreshing its repertoire by adding big band arrangements of newer Pop, Rock and Funk songs.  When performing, the band adapts its wide ranging repertoire to maximize our audience’s enjoyment.  Large concert venues, outdoor festivals, dance events or more intimate private parties, RMJO is at home in all of them.
